ESPN Bet promo code in Ontario: why none works here

ESPN BET's codes were US tracking tags for a US sportsbook that closed on 1 December 2025. Here's how they worked, what replaced them, and where codes actually live in Ontario.

No code survives the border

A promo code only works for the operator that issued it, in the market where it is licensed. ESPN BET was licensed in US states only — and no longer exists.

How the codes worked

Search "ESPN Bet promo code Ontario" and you'll find pages that still print one. They were written for a US product, they were never valid in Canada, and the sportsbook they point to was renamed more than a year ago. Here is what a code actually did, why it can't help an Ontario player, and what to do instead.

There is no ESPN Bet promo code for Ontario

ESPN BET never held an Ontario registration, so it never had an Ontario offer to attach a code to. Since 1 December 2025, ESPN BET is theScore Bet in the US, and its US offers are for people physically in those states.

How ESPN Bet promo codes actually worked

On most US sportsbooks, a "promo code" is less a password than a label. ESPN BET's welcome offer was usually available to every new customer in an eligible state; what changed from one code to another was who got credit for sending you. Sports-media sites, radio stations and podcasts each published their own code — short words like a station's call letters or a site's name — so ESPN BET could track which partner referred each sign-up and pay them for it.

That's why the same week could see a dozen different "exclusive" codes all unlocking the same thing. Some reviews noted that no code was required at all to get the standard offer. A code mattered when it was tied to a specific promotion, and even then it worked only:

  • for a new account, one per person and household;
  • for someone 21 or older (18 in Kentucky);
  • while physically inside a US state where ESPN BET was licensed, confirmed by geolocation.

An Ontario resident failed the last test before the code was even read. Opening the app from Toronto would have shown a location error, not a sign-up form.

An open padlock among scattered keyboard keys
A promo code is a tracking label, not a key. Nothing about it changes where a sportsbook is licensed to take your bet.

What happened to the codes after 1 December 2025

When PENN and ESPN ended their deal, the ESPN BET app updated itself into theScore Bet. Accounts, balances and open bets carried over; the welcome offers became theScore Bet's US offers, with theScore Bet's US terms. Codes printed under the ESPN BET name on affiliate pages either redirect to theScore Bet's US sign-up or do nothing. The ESPN app's betting tab now belongs to DraftKings, which runs its own promotions under its own name.

None of this reaches Canada. theScore Bet's Ontario app is a separately regulated product, registered with iGaming Ontario since April 2022, and US codes don't apply to it.

Where promo codes live in Ontario

Ontario takes a different approach to bonuses, and it explains why honest Ontario sites don't print codes. Under the AGCO's Standard 2.05, an operator may only communicate inducements, bonuses and credits on its own website or app, or directly to people who have actively opted in to its marketing. The rule covers affiliates, so a public page shouting an Ontario bonus code is advertising the very thing the standard forbids.

So the code field still exists — it has just moved inside the operator's walls. theScore Bet's own App Store screenshots show a Promo Code field on its deposit screen, next to quick-amount buttons and a "Set Responsible Gaming Limits" link. Codes for that field come from theScore itself: its Promotions tab, its in-app messages, or emails you've agreed to receive.

  1. Install theScore Bet from the official App Store or Google Play listing (publisher: Score Media and Gaming Inc.).
  2. Register with your real details; you'll need to be 19+ and pass identity and location checks.
  3. Open the app's Promotions area to see whatever is currently offered to you, with its full terms.
  4. Enter a code only in the app's own Promo Code field — never on a third-party page.

Read the terms before the offer

Any bonus in a regulated Ontario app comes with written terms: what you must bet first, what odds qualify, when bonus funds expire and whether the stake is returned. Those terms are the offer; the headline number isn't. If you can't find them in the app, don't opt in.

How to spot a fake promo-code page

A well-known brand that doesn't operate in a market is an easy target. People search for it, nobody official is there to answer, and a hurried reader doesn't look at the domain. Be suspicious of any page that:

  • promises a code for a brand that isn't in iGaming Ontario's directory — ESPN BET, for instance;
  • sends you to sign up on an unfamiliar domain rather than to an official app-store listing — note that espnbet.ca is a parked domain sitting on a registrar's auction page, not an ESPN site;
  • asks for a card number, banking login or ID on its own page "to activate the code";
  • offers to "transfer" a US bonus or US balance to Canada — no regulated operator does that.

If something like that has already taken your details, contact your bank first, then report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

A flip clock against a plain wall
Promo-code pages age badly. The one you found may have been accurate for a US state, for a few weeks, in 2024.

If you came here for the bonus

Then two pages will help more than a code. Sign-up bonus explains what ESPN BET's offers really paid out and how to value a bonus bet in cash. Bet $10, get $100 walks through the famous offer step by step. Both are written for Ontario readers, so both end in the same place: any current offer is inside the regulated app, and it is worth reading the terms before the headline.

Bet responsibly, in Ontario

Sports betting is entertainment that costs money. Over time the book keeps a margin on every market, and no promo changes that arithmetic.

  • Decide the amount before you start, not during. A limit set mid-session isn't a limit.
  • Use the tools the app gives you. Regulated Ontario apps must offer deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion. theScore Bet's own deposit screen carries a "Set Responsible Gaming Limits" link next to the amount buttons.
  • Never chase a loss, and never bet borrowed money or money that already has a job.
  • Watch the time, not just the balance. Time spent is the earliest warning sign.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an ESPN Bet promo code for Ontario?

No. ESPN BET never operated in Ontario, so no code of its was ever valid here, and since 1 December 2025 the ESPN BET sportsbook doesn't exist at all. A page offering an "ESPN Bet Ontario promo code" is either out of date or making it up.

Do old ESPN Bet promo codes work on theScore Bet?

Not in Ontario. In the US, existing ESPN BET accounts were carried over to theScore Bet, and theScore Bet's US promotions run under US terms. theScore Bet's Ontario app is a separate product; any code it accepts is one it issues itself.

Where does theScore Bet's Ontario app take promo codes?

Its own App Store screenshots show a Promo Code field on the deposit screen, beside the amount buttons and a Set Responsible Gaming Limits link. That field is for codes theScore gives its own customers inside the app or through marketing they've opted in to.

Why don't Ontario affiliate sites publish codes?

AGCO Standard 2.05 only allows gambling inducements to be shown on the operator's own site or app, or to people who have consented to its marketing. Affiliate content is included. A site that publishes an Ontario bonus code on a public page is advertising exactly what the rule prohibits.

How do I tell a fake promo-code page?

Three signs: it promises a code for a brand that isn't in iGaming Ontario's directory; it asks you to sign up through a link to an unfamiliar domain; or it asks for any personal or card details on its own page. A real code is only ever entered inside the operator's own app.
